Even though we have had a months worth of rain in the first half of May, we will soon be into June. Then finally it will be time to bask in the summer sun and spend our free time relaxing in the garden. You will no doubt want to make sure that your garden is looking as smart and inviting as possible in 2021. If you have not faced it yet, now is the time to clean your patio. We have created this handy HOW TO – “Clean your patio”
Cleaning your patio can be a big or small task depending on how prepared you have been. If you are one of those people who are super-organised then you may have got your patio furniture winter ready and stored away in a garage. If not, then you will have a bigger task in hand.
Getting your garden summer ready
Keep on top of weeds
I’ve never met anyone who enjoys weeding. It’s not kind on one’s back or knees and it never really ends. If you attack weeding little and often though you will benefit from a much cleaner patio. It is important to make sure that you pull out the whole root so it will not sprout again. You can nowadays purchase special weed inhibited paver sand which will help prevent them from growing.
It is important to not let leaves build up over the autumn and winter as they become wet and soggy and can grow mould. A stiff brush or leaf blower can help you keep your patio clear.
Brushing and sweeping to keep your patio clean
Every patio will attract dirt and stains when regularly used and dust and grime when it’s left to fend for itself in the winter months. When the sun starts to shine and summer is drawn in you will start to notice your patio is looking grubby and uninviting. Regularly sweep to get rid of dirt and stains and then pour on a bucket of hot soapy water and brush with a stiff brush. You’ll be amazed what this simple action will achieve and how much better your patio will look.
If your patio is suffering from more hardwearing stains – it could be stains from last years patio parties and get – together or stains caused by patio furniture then a simple solution is to use a vinegar mix.
Cleaning patio slabs with vinegar
Make sure that the patio has been swept and you have took up any weeds. Mix half vinegar and half water and pour it onto your patio. Leave it for a good twenty minutes before scrubbing it with a brush and then mop rinse the area with water. Bleach can be harmful so white vinegar is perfect to clean your patio without chemicals but be careful not to get it on your plants.
