Project Overview
For this paving project, we returned to our clients in Claverdon, Henley-in-Arden, to renovate their worn patio and garden pathways around their property. We had previously worked with these clients a couple of years ago to install a resin driveway, and now they were ready for their patio to receive the Ideal Building & Landscapes treatment.
The current natural stone patio was worn and slabs were becoming loose, which was a concern for our clients due to their elderly parent present at the home. The pointing across the patio was either cracked or missing completely due to the age of the paving, which made the slabs loose. This problem would only worsen over time, which is why we were more than happy to help.
Excavation And Site Preparation
To get the site ready for the new garden design and patio installation, we first had to excavate the existing paving. This project began with a complete excavation of the natural stone paving, which required us to dig down deep to remove not just the stones, but the existing subbase, which had become worn over time.
By removing the old subbase, we now have a clean foundation ready to prepare for the new installation. Our landscape gardeners installed a Type 1 MOT subbase, which is made using hard-wearing aggregates such as limestone, and compacted it into layers to ensure a stable and long-lasting foundation for the new patio.
Porcelain Patio
Porcelain was the chosen paving material for this garden design project, due to the sleek appearance and durability it provides. The cool-toned procelian slabs complement the resin driveway perfectly, as well as offering a stunning contrast to the traditional style property.
The patio and new garden pathways were installed using 600mm x 900mm porcelain tiles in Kandala Grey, with a block paving border to contrast. This separates the new patio and pathways from the lawn area, allowing our client to precisely maintain his grass throughout the year.
