Tarmac Paving At Front Of School
Project Overview
Ideal Building & Landscapes were asked to renovate a local school yard, as the existing paving had become loose and uneven. The existing 2×2 council standard blocks had become loose over time, causing tripping hazards and creating an unsafe environment for the children.
We chose tarmac as a cost-effective, durable and safe surface for the school entrance and provided a complete renovation to the school.
Excavating The Existing Surface
Before we could install the new tarmac paving, we first had to excavate the existing council slabs. During this process, we also removed the old subbase and roots, which were damaged and had caused the paving to lift.
We replaced these with a new hardcore base, which was compacted in layers for maximum durability and longevity.
Tarmac Paving Installation
To keep the tarmac paving entrance neat and in line with the school yard, we first installed a PCC kerb around the perimeter of the space. This would retain the tarmac and ensure a seamless installation of the new entrance.
Our installers then regulated the hardcore levels in the middle to ensure a solid foundation, before installing two layers of tarmac paving. The first was a base layer, and then a top layer, which would be the main surface of the school’s entrance. It is essential to install tarmac paving at the correct depths to ensure longevity and durability.
Finished Result
The school now has a new, safe tarmac entrance that is suitable for visitors and students of all ages.
