Project Overview
For this garden transformation, our clients wanted an attractive outdoor space that was also practical and easy to maintain year-round.
However, their garden is challenging to maintain because it receives limited sunlight, which makes it boggy in winter. This meant we had to carefully consider what materials would work best in this kind of environment, as well as what would look good.
To combat these issues and create a garden our clients can truly enjoy, we used a combination of porcelain paving and decorative gravel to create the new patio space. The garden transformation also features steps and raised sleeper planters.
Kandla Grey Porcelain Patio
We installed a new patio to create an attractive and practical area directly outside the property. The grey tones of the chosen Kandla Grey porcelain paving give the patio a clean finish, while providing a neutral base for the other materials used throughout the garden.
Charcoal kerb stones were used to form the new steps, creating a darker contrast against the lighter porcelain to define the change in levels.
Decorative Gravel Garden
As the garden gets very boggy during the winter and receives limited sunlight, we advised our clients to opt for decorative gravel rather than trying to introduce a finish that would struggle with the conditions.
The gravel extends away from the paved area and runs into a point within the garden, giving this part of the design a more defined shape. It also provides the low-maintenance finish our clients wanted and was a more suitable long-term option for this particular garden.
New Fencing and Raised Planters
As part of the wider transformation, we also installed a new fence using concrete gravel boards, concrete posts and heavy-duty feather edge fencing panels.
Raised sleeper planters were built so more planting could be added into the garden without taking away it’s low-maintenance nature. The timber used for these planters provides a warm contrast against the porcelain patio and gravel features.
Finished Garden
This finished garden transformation is now a practical and visually balanced area that combats the challenges of the location well.
The porcelain patio creates a smart, practical area close to the house, while the decorative gravel was chosen to suit the more shaded, boggy conditions further into the garden. New fencing, raised sleeper planters and contrasting steps bring the different areas together and complete the transformation.
