Project Overview
This project by Ideal Building & Landscapes involved the creation of two patio areas in the garden to create more usable space for our clients to use.
We built the new patio from the ground up, including installing new footings for a brick retaining wall, a large set of steps providing access up into the garden and drainage around the property.
For both patios we used Earth Core Grey porcelain, with darker a detailing around the edges of the pais to create a sleek, modern outdoor space.
Two-Tier Porcelain Patio Installation
As the garden is set across two levels, we had to install a patio on each tier to make full use of the space. Before we could lay any paving, however, we had to excavate the existing paving and install new footings for the retaining wall.
Earth Core Grey porcelain paving was chosen for the new patios, which was laid on a full bed of mortar, with slurry applied to the back of each tile to ensure good adhesion and longevity.
The upper patio is curved with a dark charcoal block paved border, which provides a visual contrast as well as a practical edge along the lawn. A large set of steps in the centre connects the two levels.
Drainage & Planters
Drainage was an important part of this patio installation and was installed around the property. Our team fitted ACO drainage around both the house and conservatory to prevent water puddling.
To complete the transformation, we built low-level brick planters to provide dedicated planting beds for our clients.
Finished Garden
Our clients now have a much larger patio area that makes use of both tiers of the garden. The combination of Earth Core Grey porcelain, charcoal borders and brickwork brings the different levels together, while the curved upper patio and central steps add shape to the overall layout.
